Event description

Elisabeth Viguie-Culshaw is a master stencilling artist with 25 years of experience in Glasgow Style and Art Nouveau designs.

This one day workshop will be a masterclass in some of the techniques used to produce many of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's most memorable interiors. A unique opportunity to 'learn from the best'.

Participants will explore the stencilled schemes connected with 78 Derngate and Mackintosh's late career. The design and colouring of Mackintosh stencils will be looked at. We will explore stencilling using different mediums providing all the basic techniques necessary to stencil with both dry and wet paint. Using both ready cut Mackintosh stencils and a design you create on the day and learn how to shade and protect your finished work.

This class is suitable for all levels, both beginners or those with experience in stencilling.

Further details

Visitors to Glasgow's House for an Art Lover will be familiar with Elisabeth's stunning interpretation of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's designs realised in 1996. In the same year a major retrospective Charles Rennie Mackintosh exhibition featured her recreation of the 78 Derngate 1916 stencil scheme. More recently she has worked at The Hunterian's Mackintosh House ( the reconstructed interiors of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's own home ) and also the George Walton Scottish house "Ault Wharrie". She lives in Glasgow with her husband and runs "The Lansdowne House of Stencils".

Elisabeth has taught hundreds of people her special techniques of stencilling at regular workshops in and around Glasgow.

We are delighted to host her for the first time in England at 78 Derngate and this will be a unique opportunity to learn this highly creative and enjoyable art from a master practitioner.
