This settle features in Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s design for The Dug-Out at The Willow Tea Rooms, Glasgow. 1917. It bears strong stylistic similarities for the settle designed by Mackintosh for the Hall Lounge of 78 Derngate in 1916. Notably the lattice work back and the use of the stepped oriental-inspired mouldings. The vivid yellow paint finish recalls the decor of 78 Derngate and Mackintosh’s use of yellow as the predominant colour in a number of paintings and designs from this period.
