On Wednesday 14th September, 78 Derngate hosted its first Fizz & Flowers evening as part of the Nene Valley Festival! The festival celebrated the natural and cultural beauty of Northampton over the course of nine days which saw a variety of diverse activities and events across this part of the county.
78's Fizz & Flowers evening saw 12 budding (pardon the pun) florists take a tour round 78 Derngate, taking in the rich history of one of Northampton's heritage gems before sitting down for a Mackintosh inspired floristry workshop by Claire from Florry and a glass or two of fizz!
The guests, guided by Claire, created their own bouquets inspired by the watercolours of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, complete with hand made florist wire homages to the iconic 78 screen. Claire designed a unique and striking bouquet, taking inspiration from Mackintosh roses, watercolours and 78 Derngate itself.
In just over two hours, attendees had both learned about and experienced, many for the first time, the striking Charles Rennie Mackintosh house and his artwork, as well as going home with new flower arranging tips and tricks and a beautiful CRM inspired bouquet!
